We prefer working with international students and have done for years. Many of our tenants come from outside the UK, and we make the process as straightforward as possible.
In the UK, most landlords ask for a UK-based guarantor. A guarantor is someone who agrees to pay the rent if you cannot. This person usually needs to live in the UK and be able to show they have enough income.
If you do not have a UK guarantor, we offer an alternative: pay the year's rent annually in advance. This removes the need for a guarantor entirely, and it comes with a 5% discount on the rent.
Our apartments are let on a fixed-term Common Law Tenancy, a rental agreement commonly used for student lettings like ours. It sets out the rent, the length of the tenancy, what is included, and the rules for both the tenant and the landlord.
You and the landlord both sign it. It is a legal document that protects you. It means the landlord cannot raise the rent or change the terms during the fixed period, and you have the right to stay for the agreed duration.
The agreement is written in English. If you need time to have it translated before signing, let us know.
When you move in, you pay a deposit. By law, your landlord must protect this deposit in a government-approved scheme. We use the Deposit Protection Service (DPS).
Your deposit is held safely and returned to you when your tenancy ends, provided the apartment is in good condition. The landlord cannot spend your deposit or use it for other purposes.
If there is any disagreement about deductions at the end of your tenancy, the DPS provides a free dispute resolution service.
Bournemouth is well connected. Here are a few things to help you plan your arrival.
The nearest major airport is London Heathrow. Bournemouth Airport also serves some European routes. From London, you can reach Bournemouth by train (around 2 hours from London Waterloo) or by coach.
Your apartment is fully furnished. All furniture, white goods, desks, and storage are already in place. Bring bedding, towels and personal items, or add our one-off £595 move-in essentials pack (bedding, towels, kitchen kit and a dinner set) and just bring yourself.
You will need a UK bank account for rent payments and daily expenses. Most banks have a process for international students, and your university can usually provide the confirmation letter banks ask for.
Registering with a GP (doctor) is free on the NHS for students. You should do this soon after you arrive; your university will point you to the nearest practices during enrolment.
